About Poolitics

Launched in 2004, Poolitics is the world's first and only parimutuel predictive polling outlet — a place where ideologues of all stripes and colors can put their money where their mouth is by entering real-money predictive contests (Pools).

Basic Pooling Process

New Pools are posted to the Marketplace daily — each one posing a question about the future outcome of an event or issue in the news, and offering entries for sale covering all of the possibilities.

Members can buy an unlimited number of entries (different or the same) in each Pool – only the transaction date and quantity of which is made public – until the designated closing time, at which point the breakdown of entries sold is published.

Once an outcome is reached, the jackpot is then divided by the number of entries sold representing the correct prediction, and distributed to the members who purchased them.

Payment Methods

Account debiting and crediting is performed using two proprietary currencies — Pool Points (Points) and Poolitical Capital (Capital).

Points have a (non-cashable) value of 100 Points = $1.00 towards the purchase of entries.

Members can earn Points by taking surveys, suggesting topics for Pools, blogging about Poolitics, making donations, and through other community activities and promotions.

Winnings are paid out in Capital, which can be used to buy more entries, or redeemed for cash — both at a rate of $1.00 Capital = US $1.00.

Outcome Determinations

All Pools are resolved based upon publicly available information from named sources, mainstream media reports, official press releases, transcripts, and other reputable documents/providers. In all possible cases, resolved Pools contain a link to the source used for determination.

If, for any reason, a Pool's outcome cannot be determined, it will be cancelled, and its Jackpot distributed evenly among all of the entrants.

In the event that none of a Pool's entrants purchased entries representing the correct prediction, the Jackpot is returned to Poolitics' coffers and used to seed future Jackpots.
